Shopping, Olympics, and Running... Its a Happy Saturday!

Its been an amazing week. Here is what we're happy about this week:

1. We attended the San Francisco International Gift Fair. We are always looking for opportunities to bring our costumers new creative products of the highest quality. We love shopping so we had a blast browsing through aisles and aisles of products.

Its always fun to take a day trip to the City. Plus, we are really excited about new products coming to our store soon.

2. Figure Skater: Polina Edmunds! Did you get a chance to see this girl in action during her Olympics Program? She is fantastic and only 15 years old! We love her, not only because she is a South Bay native, but because she extremely talented and she has a great sense of style. We loved the outfits she wore at the Olympics. Can't wait to see more of her in the future.

3. Blacklight Run Race in San Jose! The 5k run is tonight and we can't wait for it. We love participating in healthy fun events like this one, and we love the fact that proceeds from the race are donated to local charities. We will post pictures of the race soon!

Host An Oscars TV Viewing Party

Red Carpet, Celebrities, Glamorous Gowns, Awards, and speeches being cut off half way, YES! we love the Academy Awards. The first time I truly fell in love with the Oscars was couple of years ago while visiting a friend in L.A. A small gathering turned into a Runway show, we were the judges and I just loved every moment. We have compiled a kit to help you host the best Oscars viewing party in town while staying on a budget.

1. INVITATIONS

Instead of using a conventional invitation, use an email invitation.  There's a variety of online services that allow you to email an invitation to your guest. We personally love Evite because it has a great selection of ready to use templates. It's free, convenient, and super easy to use. 

2. GLAM IT UP! 

 It's not an Oscars party unless you dressed up. Require that your guest wear award winning attire. Trust us, they'll love an excuse to dress up! Visit My Sis' Dress to borrow a dress and wow your guest at the red carpet. Alternatively, you can wear the dress in the back of your closet - remember the one you promised to wear more than once. 

3. FOOD 

Keep it simple and elegant! Serve appetizers and hors d'oeuvres such as meatballs, olives, and cheese. Have popcorn, cupcakes and cookies.
We love this Crostini Spread recipe by Glamour:

Pesto + sliced tomato + fresh mozzarella + basil leaf
Ricotta + smoked salmon + sprig of dill + lemon slice for garnish
Blue cheese + drizzle of honey + sliced pear or blueberries
Goat cheese + chives + cucumber slice

4. DRINKS

 Serve your favorite bubbly and have ginger ale or sparkling water available for nondrinkers. To glam up your drinks try adding an edible flower petal, a strawberry slice, raspberries or cherries.

You can also create a drink station and allow your guest to make their own drinks. 

5. GAMES

We love playing Fashion Police during the Red Carpet, follow us on twitter to chat with us about fashion and top trends of the night. For the show have ballots available for your guest to predict the Academy Award Winners. Popsugar has created a super cute printable ballot. You can also print out the official ballot at the Academy Awards website. 

6. CREATE A MEMORABLE ENTRANCE

 Purchase an inexpensive red carpet from your local party supplies store. Decorate you home with Black and Gold and greet you guest with a glass of bubbly at the door.

We are beyond excited for our first blog post! It has truly been a amazing journey as we have transitioned from a business idea to the opening of our very own showroom in San Jose, California. We are totally ecstatic, in case you haven't noticed already!!

My Sis' Dress is a local boutique specializing in women's formal wear. At our showroom, you'll find anything form long formal dresses, short formal dresses, jewelry and accessories to body tape and PooPourri. The best part is that you can rent our dresses, wear them for your event and return them to us. Yes! it is very simple.

We hope to make this blog a window into our world as small business owners, creators, fashionistas, philanthropists, and community advocates. Our goal is to inspire style, beauty, and leadership.  Join us as we share what inspires us, our passions, and the latest trends in red carpet fashion.
